Activities Of Tricycle and Motorbike Riders Should Be Regulated – Dr. Vincent Ativor

Dr Ativor Vincent, a Consultant and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, has advised that the activities of tricycle and motorbike riders should Be regulated.
He said this on Opemsuo Radio on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, in relation to the news release by Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) on indiscipline on the road by tricycle and motorbike riders in the Ashanti Region.
“Although tricycles and motorbikes have been of help to the transportation needs of individuals and goods but the riders fail to abide by road rules and regulations” he said.
The Orthopaedic Surgeon explained that road accidents had increased by 20% from January to August 2021 as compared to the year 2020
“Motorcycles and Motorbikes are mostly involved in those accidents in the Ashanti Region” He added
He further explained that the Ashanti Region is leading accidents in Ghana followed by Greater Accra Region; 5 out of 8 people involved in accidents daily and admitted to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are as a result of the use of tricycle or motorbike”
“80% of those severely injured in road accidents are also caused by the use tricycle and motorbike which is very worrying and passengers who patronize them are at 30% risk of having accidents”, he advised.
