Upper West Region: Washed-Off Roads To Be Fixed Soon

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Amoako Atta, has announced that roads which were affected by last Friday’s downpour will be reconstructed in the record of time.
The Minister said this today, Monday, August 16, when he visited the Region with engineers to assess the level of damages and destructions caused.
He opined that the situation is not beyond the government and assured the residents that available funds are being mobilized to tackle the problem at hand.
“You know that His Excellency the president and the government will not allow any part of this country to go through suffering and we would not want to see any part of our country cut off from the rest. What has happened is unfortunate, it can be described as a disaster and it has affected lots of facilities particularly the road infrastructure but everybody should know that what has been destroyed is not beyond human solution.
“It is not beyond human capability. There have been massive destruction but the affected roads are going to be fixed in the record time. The government is going to mobilize all available resources to fix what has gone wrong and to fix what has been destroyed. So far we know that in terms of lives lost we haven’t had any problem at all, that is the most important thing”, he said.
Some districts in the Upper West Region experienced flooding after a torrential rainfall that lasted for about 12 hours.
Some communities were cut off following the washing off of a major road which rendered commuters and motorists stranded.
The flood is reported to have washed off innumerable vehicles along and destroyed farms.
The Regional minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, had during his assessment told the media that the Region needed a massive intervention to rebound.
