Attempted Robbery By 3 Foiled, One dead, One Arrested

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of one person for attempted robbery in Obuasi.
The Police managed to get two suspects out of three but one died after they both sustained gunshot injuries in a scuffle that ensued between the Police and the armed robbers.
Augustine aged 26 was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Antony Nana Yaw Yeboah, aged 35 was however treated and currently in Police custody at the Obuasi Divisional Police Command.
The incident happened around 5pm on Monday 5th July, 2021 along the Obuasi-Jacobu road.
According to ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Obuasi Divisional Police Patrol team on patrol duty came across a Haojin motorbike with registration number N-21-AS5571 parked in front of a private Toyota Corolla Saloon car with registration number AW3404-14.
“The patrol team later saw three men smashing the front passenger glass of the car to gain access into it.”
“As soon as the armed men saw the Police vehicle, they opened fire and the Police also returned fire. The armed men sensing danger fled into the bushes abandoning one single barrelled gun loaded with one live BB cartridge.”
“The indigens of Mile 9 community assisted the Police to comb the bush and arrested one of the suspects who was found with gunshot wounds bleeding profusely in the leg.”
He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced clinically dead by the medical officer on duty…His remains has since been deposited at the Obuasi Government hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
“Meanwhile the Jakobo police upon a tip-off arrested the second suspect who sustained gunshot wounds and was receiving medical treatment at the St. Peters Catholic hospital, Jacobu”, he narrated.
