December 7 polls: Don’t interfere in EC’s Work; leave Jean Mensah alone- Nunoo Mensah tells NDC

A former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has taken swipe at politicians trying to interfere in the works of the Electoral Commission (EC) which is mandated by law to organize elections in Ghana.
“Politicians should allow the Electoral Commissioner to do its work. They are the people who are tasked by the law to register people for every election in the country”, he pointed out on Manhyia-based Opemsuo FM morning show
.
According to statesman, it is unfortunate that, politicians across the divide are doing everything humanly possible to direct EC with respect to the upcoming new voters’ registration exercise in the nameof maintaining and recapturing political power.
“Why? …why all these! That’s is very bad and not to be allowed in our body politicking”, the former National Security Advisor under John Mills was speaking to host, George Opoku Mensah Agudey on the June 4 uprising led by Flt. Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings.
“The people have already intended to be troublesome and it’s bad; it’s sad,” he said in reaction to the hullabaloo surrounding a new voters’ register.
According to him, “compiling a new voters’ register should not be a source of tension”.
“Why should I raise hell over a new voters’ register? We need to stop it. If you are a bad person, you suspect every other person is also bad . . . we should think Ghana first,” he added.
Meanwhile, the largest opposition NDC has accused two bodies: National Identification Authority (NIA) and the Electoral Commission (EC) of conniving to disenfranchise Ghanaian youths all in a bid to rig the elections in favour of the ruling NPP government.
