Change of Gov’t: Kumasi Residents Share Views on Preferred Mayor
Some residents of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have shared their thoughts on the kind of mayor they want following the change of government, which was accompanied by the revocation of appointments of all Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) by the new government.
In a letter dated 8th January 2025, Coordinating Directors were directed to take over until substantive Chief Executives are appointed.
The latest development has paved the way for lobbying by members of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
While they await the appointment of a new mayor, members of the public have expressed their opinions regarding their preferred mayor to Opemsuo News’ Adwoa Serwaa Yonkodo, urging President Mahama to nominate a brave, God-fearing, committed, and most importantly competent mayor to effectively manage the city.
Specifically, they described their ideal mayor as someone who can “effectively manage street traders. He should be able to ensure they do not obstruct the streets.”
To others, KMA will need a mayor who can lead by example and regularly inspect the township to ensure cleanliness and orderliness because there is too much indiscipline in Kumasi.
He should also prioritize the greater good and make decisions that benefit the entire community, rather than just focusing on the interests of the NDC party.
One major issue that concerned most speakers was the completion of ongoing projects, particularly the Central Market Redevelopment project, the Suame Interchange, and the Krofrom Market.
