Nora Hauptle Discloses Reason For Ditching Black Queens

Black Queens Head Coach Nora Hauptle has subtly revealed the reason that motivated her decision to refuse a contract extension with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at the end of her contract.

According to her, it was not an easy decision to abandon her project with the Black Queens known as “Mission Volta”- an objective to reset and revert the Black Queens back to former glory- which she set out for when she was appointed in 2023.

In an interview, she revealed her decision was premised on some concerns that bothered on her success with the team.

“It wasn’t easy to give up the project. My contract was running out at the end of the year, and we had discussions. But there were a few pieces of the puzzle that were not clear, which were relevant to my success,” she told Swiss media outlet 20 Minutes.

She emphasized that she couldn’t compromise on that, thereby, her decision to leave.

That notwithstanding, the Swiss Manager assured that she had parted ways with the GFA on “good terms and with a lot of respect for each other.”

The contract expired on December 31, 2024.

The 41-year-old’s decision to ditch Ghana followed the FA’s failure to provide the needed funds for the preparation of the Black Queens towards Women’s African Cup of Nations campaign.

It is reported that the Queens were expected to face Senegal and Tunisia in friendlies; however, the FA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports failed to approve the team’s budget.

In a post on LinkedIn the former defender, spilt, “I believe that success is built on continuous development. Providing a national team for our players as many high performance games is key. Because through these game experiences we can work, learn and grow as individuals and team. The difference in amount of games played in 2024 is huge between participating teams of WAFCON’24.”

Ghana Appointment
Nora was appointed Black Queens head coach in January 2023 after serving as technical advisor to the Ghana U-20 national team during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica in 2022.

The Swiss gaffer qualified Ghana to the Women’s African Cup of Nations for the first time since 2018.

Meanwhile, the GFA is up to find her replacement before the WAFCON24 which is set for July 2025.

Zambia Deal
In a statement on January 4, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) officially announced the appointment of Nora as Copper Queens coach.
