Resolve Your Differences with Chiefs Indoors; Asantehene to Asante Queens

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has counselled queens in his realm to make use of Indoor conflict resolution in instances of disputes with their chiefs.

His Majesty is of the firm view that stool elders must not be involved in such resolutions to maintain the integrity of the stool.

In an enlightening address to the Queens during a get-together organized by his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace, the King asserted that airing their dirty laundry in public debases their stools.

“I’d rather you not air your dirty laundry for people outside to see. It is you and your son. The Gyaasehene isn’t part. No matter the magnitude of the issue, understand that it can be settled indoors. When you take it out before the Gyaasehene, Kontihene and all others, you make your stool porous. Be patient because the misunderstanding between the Queen and the Chief is not supposed to go out.”

Otumfuo suggested that Queens call their sons (as chiefs are traditionally known) to counsel them indoors when they find them erring.

“No matter what the issue is, call your son and talk to him. Had he been your biological son, you would have sat him down and spoken to him but why don’t you do the same with your nephew, brother {who occupied the male stool} but choose to sell him out?”

Lady Julia organized a banquet at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall on Sunday evening to celebrate Asante queens for their contributions and hard work after the celebration-packed year.
