Asanteman To Observe Odwira Festival Next Year
Asanteman will observe the Odwira Festival for the first time in decades next year, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has announced.
The event alongside its rites will begin in the ninth month of the year prior to the harvest of yam.
At the last Asanteman Council meeting on December 16, 2024, Otumfuo made the announcement.
“We will observe Odwira Festival next year. In September when yam will be harvested, this festival is observed. Let Tuobodom, Ofuman, Menye bring their yam. Akyeamfour must prepare Dwirahene for the event. Agona will have to find us a representative from today.”
As part of the festival, Otumfuo said he would visit Asokore Mampong, Esereso and Asaamang for the needed rites.
According to the King, the festival will go a long way to revive the spirit of Asanteman against all forces that have risen in recent days against it.
“All this will be used to revive the spirit of Asanteman. So long as the Golden Stool abides, no matter what lip rises against us it will be in vain. Let anyone who wants try. Let us believe in Asanteman. I pray for strength and life for you all so we work together for the betterment of Asanteman.”
