Fear Grips Kotoko As Talisman Albert Amoah Sustains “Serious” Knee Injury
Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have their fingers crossed as they await the medical results of leading top scorer Albert Amoah following a threatening injury to his knee on November 3 at the Lens Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
The striker was substituted in the 71st minute after he was kicked in the knee during their match day nine game against Heart of Lions.
Head Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum confirmed the injury looked serious during an interview after the game that ended in a 1-0 defeat to the home team.
According to him, Amoah was in excruciating pain and had to be helped into the team bus as he could not walk on his own.
“He had a kick direct at the side of the knee. It’s swollen and it’s very painful. He couldn’t walk. It looks serious though but we have the competent medical staff to address it. By Tuesday we will be able to know the way forward.”
Dr Ogum extolled the influence of Amoah in the team and mulled over the impact his potential absence as a result of the injury, could have on them.
“We all know his quality. His absence will definitely affect us if it happens that the degree of the injury is high but then let’s wait. By Tuesday the result will be ready. We cannot take away the fact that he is our influential player. He is a very key player.”
The 22-year-old strike has five goals to his name in the Premier League this season, leading as the top scorer alongside Nations FC’s Faisal Charwetey.
