Stand By Us During This Challenging Period; Kudus to Ghanaians
Stand-in Black Stars captain, Mohammed Kudus has implored Ghanaians to keep hope with the team following their defeat to the Falcons of Jediane on Tuesday in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Libya.
In a statement issued to apologise to Ghanaians, he assured of their commitment and dedication to the cause of the senior national team and urged Ghanaian fans to stand by the team.
He promised to make it up to fans in subsequent games.
“We want to assure Ghanaians that we are committed to learning from our mistakes, regrouping, and working tirelessly to restore the Black Stars to our former glory. We value the unwavering support and loyalty you’ve shown us, and we’re determined to make you proud once again.
“We urge all fans to stand by us during this challenging period. Your encouragement and faith in us will fuel our determination to succeed. We will not give up. We look forward to redeeming ourselves in the upcoming matches.”
Kudus captained the team to a draw at home and a 2-0 defeat away against Sudan in the October international break, sliming Ghana’s hope of advancing for the 2025 World Cup in Morocco.
In his statement, he apologized for the results.
“As someone who captained the team in the two games, it is with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I issue this statement. On behalf of the entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya.”
According to him, his team put in its utmost effort and dedication but failed to produce the desired results.
“Despite our utmost effort and dedication, the results did not reflect our aspirations or the pride we have in representing our beloved nation. We understand the disappointment and frustration this has caused, and we share those feelings.”
The Black Stars are third in the Group F with two points. They are behind leaders Angola (who hold 12 points) and then seven-point-wielding Sudan who require just a point to qualify for the tournament. Meanwhile, Niger sits in the base with one point they got from facing Ghana.
Ghana’s next game will be against Angola away from home. Anything short of victory will dash hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
If Ghana fail to qualify, it will go down in history as the first in 20 years.
