2025 AFCON: Partey, 3 Others Ruled Out of Sudan Qualifier

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and three others will not be available for the crucial double-header against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier despite being handed call-ups by head coach Otto Addo.

The rest are Joseph Paintsil, Kingsley Schindler, and Osman Ibrahim.

In a communique, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said Partey was ruled out due to “medical issues” he experienced over the weekend.

“Thomas is unable to join the Black Stars due to medical issues he is currently experiencing, and his club has scheduled him for further tests in the coming days.”

La Galaxy right winger Paintsil is also with a hamstring injury, it announced.

“He experienced some pain in his hamstrings during their last game on Saturday, October 5. His club doctors have scheduled him for an MRI on Monday, 7th October. He is therefore unavailable to join the Black Stars.”

Nineteen-year-old on-loan Eredivisie player Ibrahim Osman is also said to have sustained a calf injury during their last game which saw him substituted in the 65th minute.

“His club has since communicated his unavailability to the Ghana Football Association.”

For Samsunspor forward Schindler, the FA said he has a medical emergency for which he’s currently receiving treatment.

In their places, Michael Baidoo of Swedish side IF Elfsborg, Abu Francis of Belgian side Cercle Brugge, Jonas Adjetey of Swiss Super League FC Basel and Ibrahim Sadick of Dutch side AZ Alkmaar have been called.

The Black Stars will take on the Falcons of Jediane in the third round of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament qualifier.

The first leg will be hosted by the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, 2024, while the return leg will be held in Libya on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Ghana are currently third in Group F with just one point from a loss and a draw creating uncertainty around their qualification for the tournament.

The Black Stars lost their opening qualifier by 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and drew 1-1 against Niger in their second game.
