Be Vigilant; Omane Boamah to Party Agents Ahead of Polls

The Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edward Omane Boamah, has urged his party’s polling station agents to be on the lookout on election day.

The alert comes as the country inches closer to the election month.

In a write-up left on his Facebook wall, he expressed concerns about some wrong data the IT and Statistics outfits of the Electoral Commission (EC) consistently put out.

“I submit to you that the IT and Statistics outfits of the Electoral Commission of Ghana remain the weakest links going into the 2024 elections. Think about the numerous EC’s incorrect figures that the National Elections and IT Directorate of the NDC has corrected over the past few months.

“Think about the inappropriate use of CorelDRAW for arithmetic. Think about the recurring network failures that have afflicted registration exercises.”

He alleges that the “failure” of the Commission in dealing with this “suggests it’s deliberate”.

Dr Omane Boamah thus encouraged his men to stay vigilant at the polling stations to oppose all inconsistencies in data before they are transmitted to the national level.

“Folks, don’t be diverted by the ongoing IT transmission fear-mongering! Because Ghana’s elections are manual. If wrong figures are captured at the polling stations or at the collation centres, the same wrong figures will be transmitted, if not CHALLENGED. Yours is to be vigilant at the Polling Stations and at the collation centres.

Meanwhile, as the Director of Elections and IT for the country’s largest opposition party, he assured that their results will be collated “every step of the way”.

“And we shall relay the results to the next line in the chain within record time. We shall protect your votes!”
