We Owe Only 28 Hotels over African Games- Minister
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif says the government owes only 28 hotels in relation to the 13th African Games contrary to the inflated figure reported in the media.
At a press conference on July 24, 2024, he said 44 hotels were engaged; however, 16 had been paid the full amount.
Meanwhile, with the remaining hotels, he said they had been paid more than 40%.
“We engaged 44 hotels during the African Games. As we speak, only 28 of them that the Ministry owe. The rest have all been paid a full 100%.”
“The remaining 28 have been paid more than 40%. As and when we receive the funding {we will pay} because when we have a budget, it doesn’t mean we have the money. The rest will be catered for. Some of the hotels were here to pick their cheques.”
It was reported that the Ministry owed almost 50 hotels. However, the Minister discredited it as false.
“The reports are not accurate.”
It comes after the Ghana Hoteliers Association threatened to sue the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) over the unpaid bills accrued from accommodating guests for the 13th African Games in Accra.
