Jinapor Seeks Peace with Gonja Chiefs
The Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor has served notice about his intention to explore all means to iron out his differences with the traditional authorities of the Gonjaland, especially the Yagbonwura Bi-kunuto Jewu Soale.
It comes after he was declared persona non grata by the overlord over the weekend for allegations of insubordination to the dictates and authority of the overlord.
He is determined to seek guidance to restore peace with his traditional leaders in order to facilitate the development of his constituency and the Savannah Region at large.
“I will consult and seek guidance on the way forward for normalcy to prevail so that all stakeholders can continue to work together to bring development to the people of Damongo and the Savannah Region as a whole,” Graphic Online quotes him as saying.
According to him, the accusations levelled against him are the results of “some miscommunication and unfortunate misunderstanding of some issues”.
He further emphasised his deep respect for traditions.
“For me, the fundamental point I would like to make is that the Yagbonwura is my father, my grandfather, my Overlord and there is absolutely nothing that I or anyone else can do about that. I continue to have huge regard and respect for Yagbonwuras in the past and this current Yagbonwura in particular.”
Background
On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Palace of the Yagbonwura through his spokesperson, Sulemana Adam directed all chiefs in the area against receiving the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources or any delegation he is part of at their Palaces.
He accused Jinapor of leveraging his office as a government official to make of no effect orders and the authority of the Yagbonwura.
According to Mr Adam, the Yagbonwura is of the view that Hon Jinapor is encouraging disrespect and rebellion toward his leadership.
