Asante Students Union Commissions New Office Building

Pioneers of the Asante Students’ Union Group (ASU) together with the current executives commissioned and handed over a newly furnished ultramodern office to its members on Monday, June 17, 2024, which will serve as the ASU-National Secretariat. The office is located at Asokwa, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The Union celebrated this at a special ceremony, attended by esteemed guests including Nana Baffour Opoku Agyemang, Otumfuo Twafuohene, and H.E. Dr. Kwame Bawuah Edusei, former Ghana Ambassador to Switzerland and United States.

The event honoured the pioneers of ASU, including Dr. Richard Anane and Mr. Frederick Yaw Antoh, who have played a vital role in the union’s growth and success, with Dr. Edusei notably funding the entire office building project.

Speaking to Opemsuo News, H.E. Bawuah Edusei, who is also the Founder of the Edusei Foundation, announced that, the ASU is delighted to commission its new office building, a significant milestone in its history.

“It is an honour to stand before you today as we commission the new office of the Asante Students’ Union since its creation in 1979, 45 years ago. There is no restriction in belonging to ASU because it is a social organization devoid of political mayhem or influences. It is our responsibility to be watchdogs in things that are going on in society and support our own. This building is more than just a physical structure; it represents our shared commitment to the growth, unity, and empowerment of Asante students,” he added.

On his part, ASU National Patron, Otumfuo Twafuohene thanked Dr. Edusei and the remaining founding fathers for the support and encouragement given to ASU and their commitment to the growth of Asanteman. He used the opportunity to advise and encourage the group to be united and fight for the future of Asanteman.

He also thanked Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his good leadership and support towards ASU.

The National President of the group, Nana Konadu Yiadom, expressed his delight at the commissioning of the new office. He highlighted the union’s mission to foster educational excellence, cultural pride, and leadership among its members.

“It is in our power to assist Asanteman in all aspects. Since its establishment, ASU has been a cornerstone for fostering educational excellence, cultural pride, and leadership among Asante students. This new office will serve as the central hub for our activities, providing a dedicated space for collaboration, learning, and the development of initiatives that will benefit our members and the broader community.”

“Together, we will continue to uphold the values of the Asante Students Union and work towards creating a brighter, more prosperous future for all our members.”
