Bawumia Provides Timelines for Sewua and Afari Hospitals Commissioning
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says the Sewua Regional Hospital and the Afari Military Hospital will be commissioned and operationalised before the end of the year.
He said this would offset the burden of Komfo Anokye hospital.
In an engagement with the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) on June 11, 2024, as part of his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, the Regional President, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, raised concerns about the congestion at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) which sits in deterioration.
In response, the Vice President acknowledged the woes of the facility and noted that Sewua Hospital and the Afari hospitals are scheduled for commissioning in June and August, respectively.
“The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is really under pressure being a referral hospital for 12 regions and we have made some suggestions that we should take very seriously, dedicating resources for retooling the KATH.”
He added, “We’ve made particular references to two hospitals that are almost done. Sewua which is a regional hospital and Afari which is a military hospital. We expect Sewua to be commissioned hopefully by July. If all goes well, Dr Nsiah Asare is assuring we can commission Sewua in July and Afari in August as well.”
He conceded that the two facilities, currently sitting idle, are critical to augment the KATH.
