We’ve Invested ₵6B in TVET- Bawumia
The Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the current government under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made the highest investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
According to him, the government has invested six billion cedis in that sector of education.
“We’ve made the highest investment in TVET education. We have invested over ₵6 billion in the last seven years. We have also made it free,” he said during an engagement with the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs.
The investment, he said, has led to an increase in the enrolment numbers from 59,000 to almost 116,000.
This, he said, is among the numerous investments his government has made in the educational sector.
For grammar schools, he said enrolment had increased from 800,000 to 1.4 million as a result of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy with girls taking a larger percentage of the enrolment.
In the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), the Vice President said a girls’ facility had been established in the Ashanti Region.
The Vice President’s meeting with the House on June 10, 2024, formed part of his ongoing campaign tour in the region in his mission to win the 2024 Presidential elections.
Chairing the meeting was Asante Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, and among the chiefs present were Domeabrahene Nana Kusi Oboadum I, Offinsohene Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Tepahene Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem I and Bompatamanhene Nana Effah Appenteng.
Queens in the Ashanti Region were also duly represented and included Mamponghemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II and Eijisuhemaa Nana Yaa Asantewaa II.
The Vice President was accompanied by the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Akosuah Fremah Osei Opare, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, MP for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, Minister for Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, the Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim and the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
