Lil Win Reveals Inspiration Behind His Name
Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, known by his stage name Lil Win, has shared the story behind his unique moniker. In an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Oseikrom Kwanso with Mac De President, he explained how his admiration for American rapper Lil Wayne and his early experiences as a DJ influenced his choice of name.
According to him, he has always loved the music of the rapper though he does not understand English, the language he raps in.
“American Lil Wayne is someone I really like. When I lived at Ashtown, I used to listen to his songs. I don’t understand English, so I would listen to the rhythm and dance to it in dance competitions.
He recounted his effort to meet Lil Wayne during a trip to Los Angeles. “I went to Los Angeles and tried to meet him, but it was sold out. If I had the chance, I would have climbed the stage to meet him.”
His stage name, however, was solidified through a role he played in a movie.
“When I acted in the movie ‘Menkoaa Mebusua,’ I played a DJ for the witches, so I took the name DJ Lil Win,” he said.
This combination of musical influence and his role in the film helped shape the identity that fans know and love today.
