Otto Addo Unfit For Black Stars Job- Save Ghana Football

Pressure group Save Ghana Football has kicked against the reappointment of Otto Addo as the head coach of the senior national team, Black Stars, pointing out he falls short of all conditions set by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of their search for the next coach.

The FA constituted a five-member committee headed by Vice President of the FA, Mark Addo, to scout for a new head coach after dismissing Chris Hughton in February.

Among the specs set by the GFA included a football manager with a football philosophy that aligns or complements the country’s DNA, the highest football license in the world with over 15 years of coaching experience, a proven track record in team reconstruction, organization, and development of young talent, and with proven disciplinarian, tactician, and leadership skills.

These traits, the pressure group finds, are lacked by Otto who was announced as the next head coach on Friday.

“Per the GFA’s own roadmap shared ahead of the hiring of Otto Addo, we dare say that Otto Addo does not qualify for his new role since he does not possess over 15 years coaching experience, has no track record in team reconstruction, organization and development of young talent and a no known proven winner,” it said in a statement.

It posits that his appointment lacks the requisite standards to change the country’s fortunes and has called on the Minister for Youth and Sports to intervene.

The group also kicked against the appointment of former player, John Painstil, as part of Otto’s backroom staff, saying he has a questionable moral character.

“While we respect Paintsil for his service to our national teams as a former player, it is on public record that Paintsil presented a fake certificate to appear he had a CAF license A certificate to qualify him to coach Legon Cities in 2019 when he did not have.”

The GFA settled on the 48-year-old as the next head coach for the national team and has secured his release clause from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

In a statement, the FA said he will be on a three-year contract with Ghana permanently effective in May with an option for a further 24 months.

The President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku justified the reappointment of Otto saying he had a distinguished posture during the interview process.

Otto will take the Black Stars on their March international friendlies against the Super Eagles on March 22 and the Cranes on March 26.

He has already named his squad for the games.
