Cameroon Parts Ways With Coach Rigobert Song
Cameroon’s Football Association has terminated the appointment of former Liverpool centre-back, Coach Rigobert Song Bahanag and his deputies following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which ended earlier this month.
He becomes the ninth football manager to lose his job after the tournament.
In a statement on February 28, 2024, the Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) announced his departure.
“The Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has today notified the members of the Technical Staff of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon of the end of their contract at the head of the Senior Gentlemen National Team.
“To this end, FECAFOOT expressed its thanks to Mr. Rigobert SONG BAHANAG and his deputies for their dedication to the service of the nation during the two months devoted to their missions.”
It added that the terms and conditions relating to the recruitment processes of a New Technical Supervision of the Indomitable Lions will be communicated in the next four years.
Song took over the administration of the Indomitable Lions in March 2022 after Toni Conceição.
The Indomitable Lions got eliminated from the tournament in the Round of 16 after a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria. In their group stage games, the Indomitable Lions won one, drew one and lost one game to qualify for the next round with four points.
Walid Regragui of Morocco, Jalel Kadri of Tunisia, Djamel Belmadi of Algeria, Tom Saintfiet of Gambia, Adel Amrouche of Tanzania, Rui Vitoria of Egypt, Chris Hughton of Ghana and Jean-Louis Gasset of Ivory Coast have all departed their roles as Managers.
