Akufo-Addo Mourns Deceased Namibia President
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condoled with the people of Namibia following the death of President Hage Geingob on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
He died at the age of 82 at a local hospital in Windhoek, surrounded by his wife and his children after battling cancer.
In a statement, President Akufo-Addo characterised him as a respected and dedicated leader.
“His vision, commitment, and tireless efforts to advance the well-being of Namibians have left an indelible mark on the nation’s history. His leadership, characterized by wisdom and compassion, will be remembered not only within the borders of Namibia but also across the African continent.
“His legacy will endure as a beacon of inspiration for future generations, and the impact of his contributions to the progress and development of Namibia will be felt for years to come. As Namibia mourns the loss of a distinguished leader, it is my hope that the spirit of unity and resilience that has defined President Geingob’s leadership guide Namibia through this difficult time, and that his successor will continue with the excellent relations that Namibia has built with Ghana.”
He expressed his condolences to the Namibians saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Namibian nation during this challenging time.”
President Geingob had served as Prime Minister for the country since 1990 before his election and swearing in as president in 2015.
He was set to end his term in March 2025; however, it will be covered by his Vice President, Nangolo Mbumba who was yesterday sworn in as acting President.
