It’s A Must-win Game; Hughton On Mozambique Clash
Irish football manager Chris Hughton has characterized the Black Stars’ last group match against Mozambique as a must-win game.
The game scheduled for Monday, January 22 with other factors will decide Ghana’s fate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana failed to win any of their first two games in the group stage. They lost to Cape Verde by 2-1 on January 14 and drew against Egypt on January 18.
At a post-match press conference after their 2-2 draw against Egypt, the 65-year-old Ghana coach declared of their third game, “It’s a must-win game.”
He anticipates a tough game after recognizing that the 2023 AFCON has unexpectedly been characterized by surprises from smaller teams.
“Our concentrations are not on one player. What we have seen in Mozambique before this tournament and of course what we see in this game, in their first game, was a very good performance. They had really good periods in the game against Egypt. A lot of quality in the team…What we have to do is prepare ourselves. In what the tournament has shown so far, there are no weak teams and we have to prepare ourselves for another tough game.”
He is willing to lead the team as far as they can get in the tournament.
“The only thing I think about is the team. I think about the team and putting in the performance that can see us getting through to the next round and giving the opportunity to go as far as we can go.”
