Police Investigate NDC Official For Inciteful Comment
The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande is under investigation for some comments deemed inciteful and in bad taste for the peace and security of the country.
He is reported to have made the submission during an interview on Okay FM this week.
In a statement, the police said its attention had been drawn to the comment, provoking a probe.
“The attention of the Police has been drawn to a statement allegedly made by one Mr. Mustafa Gbandi on Okay FM, an Accra-based radio station that seeks to incite violence during the 2024 general elections.
“Police have commenced investigations into the matter in line with the laws and democratic values of the country.”
The police service has vowed to protect the peace and security the country proudly holds to its name.
“We wish to assure the public that under our watch no one will be allowed to undermine the peace, security, law and order in our beloved country.”
Mr Gbande during his interview is quoted to have said,” . . they {NPP} think the way to go is violence so I’ve told our leaders that if possible let’s prepare twice the NPP and wait for them, when you are going to the polling station put a cutlass in your pocket . . . if we do, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not be able to misbehave toward us.”
It is the third time the attention of the police has been drawn to such a comment. In February this year, the NDC Suame Constituency Youth organiser, Koampa Razak Avoliya, was captured in a video saying, “According to my experience in politics, we can’t defeat the Akufo-Addo administration on paper but with violence and you can’t use violence without casualties.”
He was arrested and prosecuted later.
In April, Bryan Acheampong who is the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency and Minister for Food and Agriculture, was also captured at a rally asserting the NPP will not hand over power to the NDC after the elections.
