Sampa Administratively Controlled by Asantehene -Subin MP Schools Jaman North MP

The Member of parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency, Hon Eugene Boakye Antwi has been compelled to set the record straight on Sampa chieftaincy issues when the MP for Jaman North constituency, Hon Frederick Ahenkwah made a statement on the floor of parliament on chaos in Sampa.

Commenting on the statement, Hon Eugene Boakye Antwi corrected a distorted history.

He said Sampa falls within the administrative control and purview of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“Mr Speaker, Sampa is part of Asanteman, therefore Otumfuo installs all paramount chiefs within his administrative area and is therefore unfortunate for a matter of such nature, a very sensitive matter when it comes to installation of paramount chiefs (Amanhene) within Asanteman area to be determined by Bono Regional Council or Regional House of Chiefs. That is also very unfortunate.”

He mentioned that towns such as Japekrom, Sampa, Nkoranza and Seikwa are all under Asantehene, so Bono Regional House of Chiefs does not have jurisdiction over their chieftaincy issues.

He further explained that these traditional facts are well documented in the Chieftaincy Act, as his control of such traditional areas.

The MP called on stakeholders, members of parliament and paramount chiefs, to understand the supremacy of Otumfuo when it comes to matters concerning Asanteman.

He cautioned MPs to tread cautiously and leave chieftaincy matters to those who are mandated to do so to ensure peace and stability in such areas.
