GFA ExCo Threatens Legal Action Against Former Footballer

Frederick Acheampong, an Executive Council (ExCo) member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says he will resort to legal action to clear his name after former Ghana international Ransford Osei accused him of taking $20,000 in exchange for a Black Stars call-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In a press statement, Mr Acheampong classified the allegation as “ridiculous” “malicious” and “without any basis”, noting he never extorted money of any amount from the player in exchange for a call-up.

“In my dealings with Ransford Osei, in my capacity as Marketing and Communications Director of Kessben FC, I acted with utmost professionalism as all parties worked tirelessly to lift his football career to the next level.

“Osei has since sought to blame his career failures on everyone but himself, the latest being this ridiculous accusation against me. I never asked, nor received $20,000 from Ransford Osei for any purpose and hereby challenge him to provide the proof or retract and apologise.”

He is thus demanding the former Black Starlets and Black Satellites player prove his allegations.

“If he fails to provide the evidence to back up his absurd claims, I will be left with no choice than to use all legal means including the law courts to clear my name. Those actively publishing and spreading this falsehood via social media, will join in the legal proceedings.”

According to him, the allegation has been forwarded to his lawyers to see to his exoneration.

In an interview with the media, Ransford Osei said the ExCo took $20,000 from him for influential figures in football leadership which would ensure his national call-up, a call he never received.

According to him, that brought his career to an abrupt end.
