Kotoko Kicks Against Fine

The Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have declared their disagreement with the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over their match day six game against Nations FC at Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese.

The Club together with one of their players and their equipment officer have been fined a total of GHC91,000 for misconducts in two separate matches.

Kotoko will pay GHS5,000 for misconduct during a game against Karela United FC played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on October 1 while it has been fined for GHc80,000 for another misconduct in their Nations FC Clash on October 22.

Though the club failed to comment on the sanction for the Karela game, it opposes that of Nations FC’s which saw their player, Sherif Mohammed, and their equipment officer Issah Amadu both fined GHC3,000 each.

According to the club, the Committee failed to consider their defence.

“We wish to place on record and for emphasis, that we do not agree with the decision as it does not represent the true and proper nature of events that occurred during the match. For instance, Issah Amadu was not even part of our officials in the match, designated to sit on the bench or have access to the field and dressing rooms when the game was in session.

“How then did the referee say he attacked him on the pitch? We understand that one Mr. John Ansah is the one alleged to have told the GFA to punish Mr. Amadu. Throughout our defence , we requested the GFA to allow us appear in person together with the match officials to ask how they concluded on their report, but this was not granted,” a statement it released in reaction to the fine said.

That said, it is uncertain if an appeal will be filed or the fine will be honoured.
