Medeama’s Abdulai and Issahaku Get Late Black Stars Call-Up
Medeama Sporting Club’s Nurudeen Abdulai and Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku have received a late call-up from Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.
This follows the withdrawal of KamalDeen Sulemana and Abdul Mumin from the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.
The reasons behind their pull-out were, however, not communicated.
A statement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) indicated that the two replacements joined the team as camp opened on Monday, November 13, 2023.
Players already spotted in camp include Edmund Addo, Jordan Ayew, Andre Ayew, Majeed Ashimeru, Nicholas Opoku, Inaki William, Osman Bukari, Antoine Semenyo, Joojo Wollacot, Richard Ofori, Jonathan Sowah, Gideon Mensah, Baba Iddrisu, Hamidu Abdul Fatawu, Joseph Painstil and Denis Odoi.
They are set for their first closed-door training session on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for their clash against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday, November 17, 2023.
Their second qualifier will be against Comoros at the Moroni Stadium on November 21.
The next FIFA Men’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in 2026 in Canada, the USA and Mexico between June and July 2026.
Ghana will be seeking to make their fifth World Cup appearance with the qualifiers after previously qualifying for the tournament in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022.
