EC Opens Nominations For District-Level Elections
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has opened nominations for the Assembly and Unit Committee Members elections.
A statement released by the EC on Thursday said the nomination form could be obtained at no cost at its various District Offices or website.
The Commission will receive the completed nomination forms of aspirants for both the District Assembly Election and Unit Committee Election from November 16 to 17.
“Completed Nomination Forms must be delivered in quadruplicate by the Candidate or the Proposer or Seconder together with two copies of recent post-card bust-sized photographs to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Area for which the Candidate seeks election, from the 16″ to the 17 of November 2023 between the hours of nine o’clock in the morning to twelve noon and two o’clock to five o’clock in the evening on each day.
“Nominations for the District Assembly Elections shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of the Proposer and the Seconder and supported by eighteen (18) other persons who are residents and registered voters in the Electoral Area.
“Nominations for the Unit Committee Elections shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of the Proposer and the Seconder and supported by eight (8) other persons who are residents and registered voters in the Electoral Area.”
This will be followed by the posting of the notice of polls from November 29 to December 4 and between December 1 and 14 there will be a platform mounting for the aspirants.
On December 19, 2023, the EC will conduct the elections in 6,272 electoral areas in 259 out of a total of 261 districts in the country.
This is because Nkoranza North and South in the Bono East Region are excluded. This is due to the fact that they held their election in April 2021 and will be due for their next in 2025.
The election will take place in 38,622 polling stations nationwide.
