Kumasi Evangel Choir Scheduled For Europe Tour
Illustrious Ghanaian Choral group Kumasi Evangel Choir- Ghana will this month stage electrifying concerts in five European Countries beginning in Prague in the Czech Republic.
At the invitation of the organisers of the annual On Stage festival, the group will this year join and perform in the Czech Republic.
It is scheduled to span from November 9, 2023, to November 12, 2023.
This will be followed by performances in Hamburg and Wenigerode in Germany, Rome in Italy and Geneva in Switzerland.
In Rome, they will perform at the iconic Basilica Di Santa Maria Degli Angeli on November 15 and then return to their home country on November 17 after the nine-day performances.
Previous Tours And Awards
This is the choir, noted for its childhood cancer advocacy’s third international tour in the past one year.
In July, the group attended the 12th International Johannes Brahmas Choir Festival in Germany where they were decorated with three awards including the Favourite Choir Award and Excellent Performance Award after outperforming all 27 participating choirs.
This was followed by a tour in Sweden.
Throughout both functions, the Kumasi Evangel Choir-Ghana was the only African choir invited to attend these events.
Rebranding
On November 2, 2022, the choral group sought the blessings of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to rebrand as Kumasi Evangel Choir with the intent to give international recognition to Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region and Ghana at large through their concerts.
The request pleased the King and on November 6, 2022, during its 10th anniversary, the new name was unveiled, putting to rest Celestial Evangel Choir- its previous name.
Mission
According to the Music Director of the Choir, Dr Albert Adusei Dua, their performances are geared at creating awareness about childhood cancer as well as attracting support in diverse forms for children with cancer in Ghana.
“Our mission is to create awareness about childhood cancer. Through our performances, we raise funds for donation to the Childhood Cancer Ward at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).”
He said the group has been into this for the past eight out of its 11 years of existence.
The choir is made up of professionals like medical doctors, bankers, IT specialists and lawyers.
