“AngloGold Ashanti is committed to positively impacting the communities in which we operate. By investing in and improving access to quality healthcare and services, we seek to create a strong and sustainable impact on the lives and well-being of the people of Obuasi.”
Mr. Baidoo was speaking at Fomena, the Adansi North District capital, during a durbar and mini clinic event put together by the Anglogold Ashanti to climax their Breast Cancer Awareness activities.
The company in partnership with the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, the Ghana Health Service and other partners assembled health experts to screen and treat residents of Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Teeth, Eyes, Diabetes, sugar tests, Blood Pressure among others.
Free medication was administered to participants diagnosed with various diseases during the event.
According to him, the mining company, after bouncing back four years ago, “we have through the 10 Year Socio-Economic Development Plan, stepped up our corporate social responsibilities to our host communities. A very critical component in the plan is the delivery of quality healthcare”.
He disclosed that “in January this year, we upgraded the Anyinam Health Post to a Health Center to provide a better healthcare to the people in Anyinam.
He further noted that the company has already cut the sod for construction of a health center at Dokyiwa and Binsere.
“Very soon, we will be cutting a sod for the construction of a Theater and Laboratory facility for the Akokeri Health Center to upgrade it to a Hospital status here in the Adansi North and also build a CHIPS Compound at Akaporiso and other communities.”
Mr. Baidoo further promised an even and equitable distribution of AngloGold’s health infrastructure across the district capitals and major communities in the Obuasi and Adansi enclaves.
He indicated the company is much concerned about the health of residents in the Obuasi and Adansi communities for which reason they in collaboration with stakeholders held series of awareness creation events in the month of October on Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Prostate Cancer and other diseases.
