Hughton Friendlies Squad: Ayew Out, Tariq Lamptey In
Defender Tariq Lamptey has been named among Coach Chris Hughton’s squad for mid- October friendly games against Mexico and the United States of America (USA) as captain Dede Ayew has been blanked out.
The half-Irish coach named his men on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Tariq made his last appearance for the Black stars in the 2022 World Cup tournament after which he was left out of the squad for a series of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers this year due to an injury.
It is not yet known why Captain Ayew was left out of the squad but it comes after he was benched both in the final leg of Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against Central Africa Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the friendly match against Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium in September.
Additions to the squad include Thomas Partey and Daniel Amartey who had missed September AFCON qualifiers due to injuries.
Ghana will take on Mexico at the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte on Saturday, October 14 before taking on the United States of America in in Nashville in Tennessee on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
The friendlies will prepare the team for the upcoming 2023 AFCON tournament in Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.
The 23-man squad include Lawrence Ati Zigi, A. Manaf Nurudeen, Richard Ofori, Tariq Lamptey, Alidu seidu, Joseph Aidoo, Nicholas Opoku, Alexander Djiku, Daniel Amartey, A. Fatawu Hamid, Gideon Mensah, Osman Bukari, Joseph Paintsil, Thomas Partey, Edmund Addo, A. Salis Samed, Elisha Owusu, R. Konigsdorffer, Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Ernest Nuamah, Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo.
