Freezy Macbones On Why He Accepted To Represent Ghana

Boxer Seth Gyimah, nicknamed Freezy Macbones has shared his reason for accepting the Ghana Boxing Authority’s invitation to represent the country at the Paris 2024 Boxing continental qualification tournament.

In an interview, he said he only thought it right to accept the invite to join the Black Bombers- Ghana’s national boxing team.

“Compared to football, most of the players play for {foreign clubs} because of money but if they dedicate the knowledge and the skills they have acquired to the country, it will help. If nobody has done it, I’m going to do it.”

In response to the invite, he said he “needed to come back home and help the country. The focus should not always be money, sometimes we have to look outside the box as well.”

Aside from this, he said representing Ghana will enable him to realise his childhood dream of making himself, his family and country proud.

The qualifiers will be staged in Dakar in Senegal from September 9 to 15.

The 33-year-old during his time with the Black Bombers observes the camp is inundated with “discipline, focus, determination {and} commitment”.

“Everyone is active and happy…we are all happy to go to Dakar and get the win,” he added.

His boxing career of Macbones started in the United Kingdom (UK) following his migration from Ghana in 2012. He had, however, been harbouring an interest in the sport since childhood and gave it a shot in 2017.

He became popular with Ghanaians after defeating Darryl Sharp in his second professional bout in May 2023.

Earlier, there were reports that he had snubbed his home country to fight as a British national following a nationality switch.
