Chelsea Signings Under Todd Boehly £1Billion
A report by Sky Sports has it that the Chelsea Football Club has spent £1 billion on players they have signed this season under co-owner, Todd Boehly.
The total cost, it said, comes after the signing of England Under-21 international Cole Palmer today on a £42.5m deal.
“Chelsea have now spent £1BILLION under Todd Boehly after the arrival of Cole Palmer,’ the sports media outlet put out as it listed the names of 31 players the business investor has brought to the Club since his takeover from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
The Club has committed to signing young players on heavy contracts.
Reports indicate that Palmer, the latest signee cost £42.5million and will remain at Stamford Bridge on a seven-year contract with a club option of a further year.
He moved from Manchester City after joining at age 6 and says the Club will occupy a “special place” in his heart.
In a message on Instagram, he thanked City for grooming him.
“I have been very lucky to work with some amazing people along the way. To the coaches the staff, the physios and to all the people behind the scenes. I am very grateful and just want to thank you for helping me become who I am today.
He, however, told Chelsea media, he was elated with the move.
He added, “I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here.”
Chelsea since the beginning of this season has won one of its three matches.
Its season opener against Liverpool on August 13, ended in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. This was followed by a heavy defeat to West Ham by 3-1. Their first win for the season was recorded during a face-off with Luton Town last Saturday.
