Mason Mount Leaves Chelsea For United

English footballer Mason Tony Mount has now joined Manchester United on a reportedly £55m initial deal.

His move, his former Club- Chelsea- says is an end to their 18-year association after beginning training with the Blues at the age of six and signing as an Under-9.

The midfielder’s contract with United is valid until 2028 and has the option to be extended by a further year.

The 24-year-old made 195 appearances for Chelsea and scored 33 goals.

Throughout his career, he has made 279 club appearances, scoring 58 goals and contributing 53 assists.

During the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, he was named Chelsea’s Player of the Year by supporters.

United revealed Mason had been their target for a while.

“We have admired his talents for a long time, so we are delighted that he has chosen to take the next steps in his career here at Old Trafford. His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff,” John Murtough, Manchester United football director, said.

As a world-class player, Murtough is hopeful his addition to the team will drive up the Reds’ performance levels next season and beyond.

Mason admitted his decision to leave Chelsea was a difficult one but finds United a whole new “exciting challenge for the next phase of my career”.

“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies,” he said.

He continued, “I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”
