AirtelTigo Explains Reason behind Name Change
Management of AT Ghana, formerly AirtelTigo Ghana, has stated that the change in the brand name is connected to the company’s “promise”.
The name change takes effect on Wednesday, June 22, 2023, it said in an official statement.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Leo Skarlatos, the name change is aimed at making the brand easily recognizable to customers.
“AT is a bold and strategic move aimed at reflecting our brand promise of simplicity making it easier for our customers to identify and engage with us,” he said.
“We believe that this name change will only serve to strengthen our brand identity and represents our dedication to growth and simplicity.”
He said the changes only affect the brand name and logo, and will not impact the company’s management structure, products, or services.
“The name change will apply to all sub-brands; ATMoney, AT Business, AT Premier and AT Insurance. Our social media and website domain names would change accordingly.
“The new name, AT will also apply to all future communications, marketing materials, and branding efforts. All trade materials reflecting AirtelTigo will subsequently change to reflect the new brand, AT, whereas the brand colours will remain the same,” the statement said.
In 2017, Bharti Airtel BRTI.NS merged with Millicom’s Tigo MICsdb.ST in Ghana to become AirtelTigo to increase their market share. Their agreement received the nod of the National Communication Authority in September.
In 2021 the government of Ghana took over the company for US$1 when the telco left the country.
