22 Players Handed Call-Ups For U-23 AFCON
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the call-up of 22 players for the upcoming U-23 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The players will form part of Ghana’s Black Meteors for the AFCON.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko named the players from clubs in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and tier clubs.
The players include Danlad Ibrahim (Asante Kotoko), Aziz Daari (Bechem United), Aaron Essel (Bechem United, David Oppong (King Faisal), Haffiz Ibrahim (Attram de Visser), Samuel Ashie Quaye (Great Olympics), Yahaya Mohammed (Tamale City), Razak Yussif (Great Olympics), Dede Ishmael (Dreams FC), Emmanuel Adjei (Attram de Visser).
Also are Kwesi Pong (Heart of Lions), Essu William (Legon Cities), Augustine Randolph (Karela United), Nuhu Tanko (Maana FC), Dominic Nsobila (Accra Lions FC), Salifu Samaari (Accra Lions FC), Sylvester Simba (Dreams FC), Issa Kuka (RTU), Emmanuel Appau (Goldstar FC), Suraj Seidu (Hearts of Oak) and Derrick Fordjour (Medeama SC).
The players will begin camping at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram today, May 23 at 3 pm, the GFA noted.
Ghana qualified for the 2023 CAF U23 AFCON with a 2-1 aggregate win over Algeria in March.
The tournament will be hosted by Morocco from June 24- July 8, 2023.
The Black Meteors are housed in Group A with Morocco, Guinea and Congo.
Ghana is seeking to use this opportunity to qualify for this Summer’s Olympics in Paris in France.
