President Nominates New MMDCEs for Krachi East and Offinso North
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, has proposed the appointments of Mr. Bernard Aboakoia Mensah and Albert Sefa Boampong as Municipal and District Chief Executives for Krachi East in the Oti Region and Offinso North in the Ashanti Region respectively.
The nomination is in accordance with Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act of 2016 (Act 936) as amended, and Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
Following the nominations, the candidates will be subjected to confirmation by their respective local assemblies as part of the appointment procedure.
According to a press release signed by Dan Botwe, the Minister of Local government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, in order to be confirmed, the nominees must participate in the final stage of the appointment procedure.
“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to liaise with the Regional Electoral Commission to conduct the confirmation process of the nominated chief executive,” it stated.
Mr. Mensah’s nomination at Krachi East comes after the unexpected passing of the previous Municipal Chief Executive, Francis Kofi Okesu, in September 2022.
In Offinso North, the nomination of Mr. Boampong comes after the unfortunate death of the Assembly’s District Chief Executive, Mr. David Akwasi Asare Boakye, five months ago.
