Improve Appalling Working Conditions of Journalists – MFWA
Kwaku Krobea Asante, the Programme Officer for Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has called on media owners to address the poor working conditions faced by journalists.
Mr Asante expressed concern over the difficult work environment journalists face, which includes inadequate salaries, poor working conditions, and little job security.
He challenged media owners to take steps to improve these conditions and ensure that journalists are given the necessary resources and support to perform their duties effectively.
A recent report by the Department of Communication Studies in University of Ghana, in collaboration with the MFWA dubbed, ‘The State of the Ghanaian Media Report,’ exposed the poor working conditions of many journalists in Ghana.
According to Mr. Asante, poor working conditions of journalists make them vulnerable.
‘’Working conditions of journalists are very poor and it makes the practice of journalism even more precarious. I really think that media owners and managers must be engaged on this very critical issue. Other areas of concern are the politicisation in media ownership, and the fact that it’s opaque, it’s not transparent,” he added.
