Clearance Of Structures In GRIDCo’s Right-Of-Way Underway In Ashanti Region
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has begun an exercise to clear out illegal structures obstructing transmission line in the Ashanti Region.
The exercise will cover the 24km 161kV single circuit Kumasi to Konongo Transmission Line Corridor.
This was contained in a notice by GRIDCo on Tuesday, March 11.
The exercise will be conducted by GRIDCo’s Right-of-Way Team and will be completed on Friday, April 15, 2023.

In June 2022, the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, Mr Ebenezer Essienyi, said the company’s right-of-way has been encroached on by traders and other people endangering their lives.
“There are people plying their trade under transmission lines. Our laws forbid these activities. Should any line go down, lives will be lost so it is important for people to stay off,” he stated during a press conference.
He said the activities of the encroachers could cause the wires to snap or sag and that could trigger electrical accidents.
As a result, the company formed a Right-of-Way Task Force last year for deployment to Kumasi, Obuasi, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Winneba, Tema, Accra, Kejebi and Tafo to eject encroachers on the company’s transmission lines.
GRIDCo notes that the Transmission Line Protection Regulations Act, 1967 (LI 542) which was amended in 2004 by Regulation No. LI 1737 makes encroachment of the Right-of-Way an offence.
