Haruna Iddrisu Boycotts His New Seat In Parliament

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency and immediate past Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has boycotted a seat offered to him in Parliament.

The MP had to take a new seat following the stripping of the Minority leader position by his party’s national Executives.

He used to occupy one of the front seats designated for the minority’s leadership in the House, however, it has been taken over by Cassiel Ato Forson, the new Minority leader.

Today in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu was given a seat belonging to MP for Asutifi South Constituency, Collins Dauda, however, he refused and assumed the seat of the first deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu.

Addressing the House, he said, “Mr Speaker, forgive me that I have to assume your chair. There was whether I should take over from Hon Collins Dauda or not and I told them Hon Collins Dawda is senior by age…he is senior even to this House. So I will not sit in his chair as somebody who is well trained from home.”

He noted that he would opt for any other seat than the one belonging to Hon Collins Dauda.

“I will sit on any other chair.”

According to Opemsuo Radio’s Parliamentary correspondent, Kwaku Bofah, Hon Collins Dawda also refused to assume a new seat assigned to him by the caucus.
