GES Alerts Public On School Placement Fraud
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a statement of caution against school placement fraud for the school placement of 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This comes ahead of the release of high school placement.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to announce to the general public that preparations are ongoing for the release of Senior High School Placement for 2023/2024 academic year.
“Management strongly cautions the general public not to fall prey to deceitful persons that may approach them to pay money for a place in SHS.”
This comes after the Fourth Estate uncovered corruption in school placement in a documentary called “School Placement For Sale”.
The said documentary unravelled how cleaners and security guards linked with officials at the Ministry of Education changed the original placements for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates to Grade A schools at a fee.
In a statement, the GES urged the public to be wary and report persons who advertise school placement changes to the police.
“We also advise the general public to beware to be Ware of fake news portals and instead follow GES official social media handles.”
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) released results for 2022 BECE candidates last week.
In a press statement, WAEC said 419 subject results of candidates were cancelled for entering the examination hall with foreign materials or colluding with other candidates.
Out of the number, 416 are school candidates whereas 3 are private candidates.
On the other hand, 38 Subject results of candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged examination malpractices.
Also, the entire results of 75 candidates have been cancelled- including 73 school candidates and 2 private candidates.
Additionally, the entire results of 11 candidates have been withheld.
WAEC further disclosed that scripts of students from 40 schools in certain subjects are undergoing scrutiny for a final verdict following an ongoing investigation.
According to data from the Council, 552,288 school candidates entered to sit the 2022 national exam, however, 4,309 were absent.
1,144 entered to sit as private candidates.
