3 Completed Health Centres Abandoned; Report
Three completed health centres in the Greater Accra Region have been abandoned three months after completion by Project Engineers.
This is according to the report of the auditor general on covid expenditure.
The treatment, isolation and holding centres were completed at a cost of GH¢29,173,259.90, the report showed but remain unused.
The three projects included the remodelling of Old Dodowa Hospital as a Treatment and Holding Centre; the construction of Covid-19 Isolation and Treatment Facilities at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital; and the proposed Refurbishment and re-equipping of Fevers Unit as Treatment and Holding Centres at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital at a cost of GHc11,506,282.20, GHc1,187,231.81 and GHC16,479,745.89 respectively.
These facilities were funded by the World Bank and completed in October 2022.
“If the completed facilities are not put to use as early as possible, they could deteriorate, and the investment will go down the drain”, the auditor’s report stated.
