Students Of Krobea Asante Technical And Vocational School Sent Home

Students of Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School at Asokore in the Ashanti Region have been sent home following a demonstration that led to the destruction of properties.

This was communicated by the Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, Mawusi Nudekoe Awity.

Some students of the school on Sunday went on a rampage vandalising some school vehicles and buildings, it is reported.

40 of the students have since been arrested.

The decision to close down the schools was in accordance with advice from the Sekyere East District Security Council.

“The security services will be on hand to evacuate all the students to protect lives and properties. Parents are advised to take steps to pick up their wards from the school”, a press statement from the Ghana TVET Service said.

A report by JoyNews said Mahindra and an Isuzu pickup truck, a Nissan Patrol, a school bus, Toyota Vitz, and a saloon car were destroyed.

The school’s storehouse was also invaded.

It is reported that the protest was necessitated by the poor results of their predecessors in their final examination, however, the district Education Director, William Brako Agyapong, said it’s just speculation.

“All that we are hearing are speculations. One of them is that poor results are the cause. This is a pure technical school. They don’t write WASSCE. It is speculation…The school has come up with a policy that when it comes to prepping, you don’t do this together but it’s a mixed school.”

The DCE, Principal of the School, District Education Director and Security forces are currently in a meeting over the incident.

“The principal is also here. We are going to meet and hopefully, after the meeting, we are going to let you know the decision we have taken.”

Meanwhile, other students have been identified in connection with the incident and are being pursued, he said.
