GFA Instructs Lawyers To Sue Individuals, Media Houses Who Defame Association, Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced legal actions will be instituted against persons and media houses who defame the Association, its officials and the Black Stars.

This was communicated in a press statement on December 13, 2022.

The planned suit follows defamatory comments by some individuals against the GFA over Ghana’s early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar.

According to the association, it has “instructed its lawyers to institute legal action against persons who defame the Association, its officials, products and destroy the Black Stars brand as well as the media platforms”.

There have been allegations of corruption and interference with player selection against the football association.

French football journalist Romain Molina has accused the Ghana federation of accepting bribes from players to play at the FIFA World Cup.

A similar allegation was made by dancehall artiste Stonebwoy in November after Ghana’s 26-man squad for the Word Cup was named.

“There are player who are supposed to be in the squad who are not because of #PayToPlay @ghanafaoficial why?”, he tweeted.

Several others have made similar allegations against the Association.

“Unfortunately, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has noticed that a few persons are deliberately maligning and defaming the GFA and the Black Stars brand in an attempt to manufacture a non-existent scandal about the team”, it reacted.

It noted that the legal action will provide the opportunity for such persons to prove their allegations.

It noted, “the Association will continue to encourage opinions and comments being expressed aimed at improving the team and the brand.”

Ghana dropped out of the tournament after finishing last in Group H with 3 points.
