The Ghana Police Service has directed all persons who wish to organise a public viewing of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament to get in touch with the Service for security assistance.
In a communique ahead of the commencement of the tournament, the Service said it has adequate measures in place to safeguard the safety of all citizens across the country.
“As the 2022 tournament kick starts on Sunday, November 20, 2022, the police would like to assure that adequate additional security measures have been put in place to maintain security, law and order in the country during the event and beyond.”
It urged persons who intend to organise a public viewing of the tournament at specially designated places to contact the Regional, Divisional, and District Police commands for security directives.
Such persons, it said, can also contact 0277585542- a temporarily designated contact number for the World cup and related issues.
“While the police are working to ensure the nation enjoys a peaceful and incident-free tournament, we wish to also urge the public to be security conscious so that in their excitement and jubilation, they do not fall victim to crime and do not also infringe on the rights and freedoms of others”, the police warned.
Ghana is among the 32 countries contesting in the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.
It will take place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022.
