Ashanti Region Records Rabies Outbreak
The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced an outbreak of rabies in the region.
Four cases have been confirmed in three districts as of September 12, 2022, according to a letter from the Regional Director, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang.
The Districts include Asante Akim South, Bosomtwe and Kwabre East.
It added, “the case fatality rate was 100%”.
The adpoted public health actions against the outbreak include public sensitisation; improvement in case search in facilities; follow-up and treatment of all cases of dog bites; liaison with veterinary officers for dog vaccination.
