Asiedu Nketia: Replace Bawumia As Chairman Of Economic Management Team
The General Secretary for the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has called for the removal of the Chairman of the Economic Management Team, Dr. Bawumia so as to infuse confidence in the economy.
Mr. Nketia’s call does not exclude the finance minister and also proposes the restructuring of the Economic Management Team for policy credibility.
He explains that the changes will be needful such that a new face with the team will aid solutions for Ghana from its current economic state which has led them to seek aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“We cannot trust the very people who sent us into this problem, so for policy credibility Ofori Atta ought to pack his things and go home and also as president Mahama stated, the Economic Management Team must be restructured whilst someone else chairs the economic management team instead of Bawumia because there’s nothing he’ll ever say that will be taken in good faith. So if they are able to take these two steps then it will infuse some level of confidence in the solutions prescribed.”
The General Secretary describes the visit to IMF as a normal routine but seems otherwise in the case of the NPP as a result of some harsh comments made when in opposition.
“IMF is more of a bank that we all are shareholders such that during hard times you engage them for support. But Nana Addo and Bawumia stated some time ago that calling on the IMF means lack of governance skills and that is what Ghanaians are basing on currently.
“The Russian-Ukrainian war and COVID which they claim are the causes of the economic hardship seems to be affecting Ghana alone but it’s supposed to be a global issue, so they are responsible for these challenges. Anyone who can defend the NPP, in this case, will be good enough to defend the devil to be given a seat in heaven, he said.
The government has sought the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) support of which a team from IMF is expected in the country on July 6 to commence negotiations for the bailout Ghana is seeking.
