Plant A Seedling To Fulfil Civic Duty; Jinapor On Green Ghana Day
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resource, Samuel Abu Jinapor has urged Ghanaians to partake in the Green Ghana Day slated for today, June 10, 2020 with the aim of planting twenty million seedlings to restore lost vegetative cover.
In a pre-recorded video, the Minister indicated that it is a civic obligation owed to the state.
“On behalf of the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, I entreat everyone to participate in the planting of 20 million seedlings across the country. If you have not planted, do get out there, grab free seedlings at any forestry commission district office, district assembly office and or public place. Plant it and take a picture, (and) post it.
“When you do so, you would have discharged your civic duty of helping to recover and restore our lost vegetation”, he said.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources says free seedlings can be acquired from the Forestry Commission head office; Ministry of Land and Natural Resource; All 50 forest services division offices across the country; 200 forest service division range headquarters; selected chief palaces, community centres; all central nurseries of the forest services division; national theatre and trade fair; parks and gardens offices across the country; and selected premises of RCCs and MMDAs.
The maiden edition of the Green Ghana Day was conducted on Friday, 11th June, 2021 throughout the regions of Ghana with a target of planting 5milion seedlings.
The target, Jinapor confirmed, was exceeded.
During last year’s Green Ghana Day, the president, ministers of government, chiefs, high-profiled authorities, celebrities, ministries, students and others participated in the exercise.
