88 Suspects Recruited to “Provide Election Security” Arrested
The police have announced the arrest of 88 individuals allegedly recruited by a political party to provide security at various polling stations in the Western North Region.
The individuals were mobilised from across the Greater Accra Region to provide security services during the election on December 7, according to police investigations.
They were arrested by the police while travelling in Metro Mass transit buses from Accra on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
A statement issued by the police on Wednesday said they were investigating the individuals who were on board two buses which were intercepted at Benchema in Adsawinso.
“Preliminary police investigations revealed that the said individuals were allegedly recruited by one Sammy from various locations in the Greater Accra Region including Adenta, Oyarifa and Madina to help provide security at polling stations within some constituencies in the Western North Region.”
While the suspects remain in custody, it said efforts are underway to have the recruiter also arrested.
