66 ECOWAS Nationals Arrested In Ghana
The Western Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced the arrest of some 66 nationals of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The suspects were arrested in Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana and are believed to be involved in illegal activities, including cybercrimes, the Service said in a statement.
They were arrested on March 27 at their hideout in an intelligence-led operation.
“This Intelligence operation, which began at about 2200hrs on the said date led to the arrest of these ECOWAS nationals believed to have been recruited to engage in cybercrimes and other suspected illegal activities,” the statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of GIS, Western Region, Insp. Moses Manford Akakpo read.
They are currently in the custody of the Western Regional Command of the Service, assisting in the ongoing investigations, it added.
Meanwhile, the GIS assured, the outcome of the probe will be made public.
“The Service is by this statement assuring all our stakeholders, especially, the good people of the Western Region of its readiness to make public, the outcome of this investigation as soon as practicable,” they assured.
